The Data & Analytics Practice has been providing actuarial, financial, strategy, management and distribution consulting services to (re)insurance companies/ (re)takaful operators in Asia since its inception over 25 years ago. During this time, we have been valuing the loss reserves, performing pricing studies and various capital/ reinsurance optimisation analyses for companies throughout the region for their compliance with increasingly sophisticated local insurance regulations.

The successful candidate will be assigned to one of NMG’s long-term engagements supporting the pricing function of an Australian general insurance client. In the role, you will work exclusively for the client as an extension to their technical pricing team and gain invaluable experience through direct and unparalleled exposure to the data assets and the analytical and data science practices of a leading insurance company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and executing a variety of tasks to a very high standard to support the pricing function of the client

  • Extracting, manipulating and reconciling data from multiple sources and reports; analysing data to identify key issues, develop and recommend solutions, and drive data-based decision-making; updating, maintaining and enhancing models, dashboards and reports

  • Building subject matter expertise over time including your knowledge of specific insurance products and contracts, and your knowledge of and ability to use various pricing tools and techniques to price these products and contracts

  • End-to-end project management and execution including planning, organising, implementing, and monitoring

  • Living the NMG values of Curiosity, Collaboration, Go for it and Make it Count in all interactions with the client and the broader NMG business

Competencies, Qualifications & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in actuarial science or a mathematics-related degree with a strong academic record; 1-2 years' experience in a consultancy or insurance environment

  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate in a team to achieve individual and team goals

  • Self-managing with the ability to work independently, remain flexible and prioritise competing demands and organise work-flow clearly; a high level of enthusiasm for the industry, a positive attitude, energetic approach, curiosity and willingness to learn

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including being able to convey and explain information, coherently and confidently, both verbally and in writing; ability to analyse data and think analytically to solve problems

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of statistical software such as SAS, SQL, R/ R-Shiny, Python is desirable
