NMG Consulting is a leading specialist consultancy, offering consulting, insights, analytics, and implementation to financial institutions including wealth management firms (pension funds, platforms, and advice providers), asset managers (institutional and retail, and in protection (insurers and reinsurers).

NMG Consulting’s South Africa business works with nearly all of the large life insurers, banks, investment platforms and asset managers in the South African market, focusing on a range of analytical studies (eg market share studies, profitability, etc.), interview programs, and ultimately feeding into strategic recommendations and bespoke fork-in-the-road engagements.

Summary Statement

Reporting into the Head of South Africa for NMG Consulting, this permanent full-time role based in either Johannesburg or Cape Town will focus on strategy consulting as well as analytical and interview studies in asset management, wealth and insurance (primarily focused on South Africa, but also including comparisons to relevant markets, eg UK).

It is very hands on with immersion in all aspects of the process, from relationship management, respondent sampling and fieldwork, analysis, insight generation, and delivery of content, both in presentation and report form.

There will be close interaction with our clients and consulting team, with an opportunity to gain exposure to senior executives in the South African market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strengthen NMG Consulting's South Africa proposition by designing and implementing high quality and impactful projects for clients

  • Subject matter expertise across wealth management and life insurance. Analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data and results to generate and clearly articulate critical findings and insights

  • Project delivery on time / budget / specification

  • Identifying and implementing improvements to processes to lift efficiency and quality. Assist in the business development by contributing to proposals and building rapport with key influencers and decision makers at current and prospective clients

  • Work closely with the Analysts and Consultants on various projects, and act as a point-person to discuss and agree the priorities of queries and ad hoc requests as required. Utilise the collective expertise and resources across all divisions of NMG to fully exploit our “information advantage”

Competencies, Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in commerce (finance, accounting, business administration), actuarial science, data science, statistics, or mathematics. Additional qualifications (eg MBA or CFA) valued but not required

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within financial services is essential (insurance, reinsurance, platforms, financial advice or asset management sectors) with a real passion and deep interest in financial markets and financial services business

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as data analytics and visualisation skills and awareness of best in class solutions

  • Excellent attention to detail and quality standards. A strategic and creative thinker who is highly self-motivated and capable of independent and team work

  • High level of enthusiasm for the industry, a positive attitude, energetic approach, curiosity and willingness to learn. High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
