Consultant, Strategic Insights – London

Summary Statement

As a consultant in our growing Strategic Insights team, you will be responsible for producing leading insights that help our clients in their strategic decisions-making. You will do this primarily by improving access to their customers across priority markets and distribution channels, building and measuring brand & reputation, testing product concepts and understanding new markets.

You will work on bespoke primary research studies, and significantly contribute to a growing suite of bespoke and multi-client, regional and global studies for clients in asset management, wealth management, and protection.

The role is focused on global, European and UK insights programs across wealth and asset management.

It is very hands on and will involve immersion in all aspects of the insights process, from study design, respondent sampling, fieldwork, analysis, insight generation, and delivery of content, across qualitative and quantitative methodologies. There is ample opportunity for rapid professional growth in a client-focused, commercial environment that encourages and rewards curiosity, entrepreneurial instinct, and initiative.

There will be close interaction with our clients and consulting team, opportunities to interview senior industry executives for asset owners (pension funds, sovereigns, private banks etc.) for our institutional-focused studies and undertake in-depth primary research among financial advisers and end consumers. Many of our studies are global, and extensive international travel to markets in Europe, North America and APAC is a feature.

Our work can be highly demanding, complex, and produces leading insight and often global content. Accordingly, this role suits a motivated, collaborative, curious and highly communicative individual who possesses strong technical and analytical skills, an appetite for client and stakeholder management, and personal qualities of perseverance and commitment to excellent outcomes.

The immersion in our methodologies along with the ability to articulate insights will be critical for success, but there is also significant scope for improvement in processes in an entrepreneurial environment with real room for growth.

This requires an individual with a combination of industry knowledge, technical skill, and a flair for content. For the successful candidate, it will build their knowledge of asset and wealth management, offer new experiences, and develop their consulting capability and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project delivery on time / budget / specification. Contributions to study design, questionnaire development, fieldwork completion. Mastery and optimisation of our research methodologies

  • Project management and coordination of colleagues and associates in London and internationally, to ensure successful completion of fieldwork. Coordination of teams of internal and external resources

  • Online quantitative research. Analysis and insight generation, and report writing. Utilise the collective expertise and resources across all divisions of NMG to fully exploit our “information advantage”

  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to lift efficiency and quality. Identifying new thought leadership content opportunities, including proactive engagement with clients to test concepts

  • Assist in the business development by contributing to proposals, and building rapport with key influencers and decision makers at current and prospective clients

Competencies, Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate tertiary qualification: additional qualifications valued. 3+ years of non-banking financial services experience (wealth management, asset management and insurance), preferably in product, marketing, research, analytics, management consulting or asset consulting; relevant agency-side experience will also be considered

  • Strong interest in strategic marketing and insights. Developing and clearly articulating leading insights; must challenge and provoke. Curiosity – must possess veracious appetite for learning and developing content knowledge. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, in particular for successfully building respondent samples and completing fieldwork

  • Good understanding of research methodologies and proven application of quantitative methods. Examples of strong, insightful content creation and proven writing skills will be an advantage

  • Proven data analytics and visualisation skills and awareness of best-in-class solutions. High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong Word and PowerPoint required; usage of research analytics software an advantage

  • Excellent attention to detail and quality standards. A strategic, highly self-motivated and creative thinker capable of working independently while in a highly and team work. High level of enthusiasm for the industry, a positive attitude, energetic approach, curiosity and willingness to learn
