SAS Programmer – Contract (Support) – Sydney

This is a 6-12 month contract role, and as such, it is expected that technical training and guidance required is minimal. With this in mind, relevant work experience using Base SAS is required to be able to manage the different stages of the programme cycle. Please note that once you have demonstrated success in this role, you may have the opportunity to convert to a permanent position at the end of the contract.

Summary Statement

This role will be responsible for supporting senior programmers and consultants in managing the delivery of reports for multiple study programmes; with the aim of ultimately being able to manage and run a complete programme.

You will have end-to-end exposure to study programmes, including scoping, creating, iterating and producing, and will be able to learn from qualified experts in the team, in addition to working closely with our consultants and clients. It is expected that the incumbent will contribute project experience, research and analysis skills to the team, and will be able to apply “out of the box” thinking and creativity to truly make an impact within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and deliver the desired outputs for the assigned insights programmes: a) Manage survey data from different sources; b) Analyse survey data using both existing and innovative methodologies; and c) Visualise results and prepare reports using both existing (SAS) and interactive dashboards

  • Develop responsibility for each stage of the programming cycle, including: a) Data import, review and cleansing; b) Analysis of results; c) Delivery of reports (static and interactive) to various clients; and d) Management of various ad hoc requests and analyses

  • Interact proactively and positively with programme managers and colleagues from other areas of NMG to gain better understanding of the various programmes and deliver accurate outputs

  • Apply a creative and curious mindset, applying new and evolving approaches to improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of our Insights studies

Competencies, Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience using Base SAS, MS Office (PowerPoint and Excel are essential); a Bachelor’s degree or higher (in Computer Science, Statistics/Mathematics, Computing or equivalent) with strong academic performance

  • Experience using interactive dashboarding tools such as Tableau and PowerBI; strong visualisation skills (dashboard and/or graph designing); knowledge in other programming languages is valued e.g. Python, R, VBA, JavaScript, HTML and CSS; working knowledge in SAS/Graph is a plus

  • Strong analytical abilities, ability to interrogate and model data; proven fast and keen learner with demonstratable passion for programming and data analysis; curiosity, creativity and ability to think ‘outside the box’

  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritise competing demands, and organise work flows clearly; excellent attention to detail

  • Effective communication skills (willing to ask questions when necessary) and an ability to build excellent working relationships with clients and team members
