Global Insights Consulting Practice – our largest business-line globally, runs evidenced-based consulting programmes, based on interviewing the leading industry experts to support the analysis of industry trends and the competitive performance and positioning of providers. The Global Insights Consulting practice conducts more than 50 evidence-based Insights Consulting Programmes annually, covering life insurance, health insurance, wealth management, asset management and reinsurance, across all major financial services markets internationally.

The Programming Team leads the exploration of data and derivation of insights from a variety of global programmes within the Insights practice from utilising state-of-the-art Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) strategies to implementing interactive dashboards using a multitude of data visualisation tools. Though we are a diverse set of individuals with different cultural backgrounds, interests, and levels of software expertise, we are bounded by our passion for analytics and drive for excellence.

The role will be responsible for managing data management, analysis and reporting across insight programmes and in supporting the development of new and creative data visualisation techniques. There are opportunities to learn new programming skills that positively impact our global consulting practice.

This role will provide leadership opportunities, in particular, to manage more junior members and positively influence the team through contributing to projects, research and analysis skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a member: Owning several insights programmes over the year, iterating and improving quality standards on deliverables based on the following work flow: a) Questionnaire design; b) Data capture and transformation; c) Data management – audit/review, cleansing, structuring; d) Analysis of results, and finally e) Reporting (both static and interactive/dashboards).

  • As a teamplayer: Playing an integral role in the management team that oversees programming and technical developments across our global business; a) As a people leader, ensuring your team has line of sight to enable delivery. Developing, challenging and supporting your direct reports in order to deliver maximised individual and collective growth; b) Collaborating with the global team to understand priorities and manage your and the team’s input and output effectively to meet deadlines. Working effectively with team members in different time zones; c) Working closely with programme managers and colleagues from other areas of NMG Consulting to gain expert understanding of the company proposition and global team; d) Reviewing and identifying potential issues at the initial stage of a programme life cycle and communicating these as well as possible solutions with programme managers; and e) Living the NMG Values of Curiosity, Collaboration, Go for it and Make it Count in all interactions across the business, supporting and participating in a positive team environment locally and in your global interactions.

  • As an innovator: Supporting the research and development of new concepts and techniques, aided by a strong passion in at least one area of programming, data analysis, statistical analysis and data quality control; a) Applying a creative and curious mindset, applying new and evolving approaches to improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of our Insights studies; and b) Optimising programs/codes to improve efficiency while maintaining core structures.

Competencies, Qualifications & Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher (in Computer Science, Statistics/Mathematics, Computing or equivalent) with strong academic performance; 5 to 10 years’ relevant experience in a programming and reporting role or similar.

  • Excellent knowledge and practical work experience in SAS (SAS Base, SAS/GRAPH) – current data management and reporting are done in SAS; knowledge and work experience in other programming languages is valued e.g. VBA, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Python, R; highly proficient in Excel and Power Point; strong visualisation skills (dashboard and/or graph designing).

  • Strong analytical abilities, ability to interrogate and model data; strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and organise work flows clearly; excellent attention to detail; curious, flexible and learning-oriented; ambitious and motivated.

  • Experience leading a team or programmers is highly preferred.
