We offer an exciting role within our Data & Analytics team for an individual seeking to combine their strong data management, analytical, data science and visualisation capabilities to deliver data-driven analytics and insights to clients across the general insurance industry.

Within this role, you will be assigned to one of NMG’s long-term projects supporting an Australian client. Working exclusively for the client as an extension to their technical team, you will be given unparalleled exposure to a leading insurance company operating within a developed insurance market. You will have the opportunity to learn from more experienced technicians within the team and be actively encouraged to try new techniques and suggest new approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extracting and combining data from multiple sources; data reconciliation between different systems and reports

  • Analysis and checking data & diagnostics from multiple perspectives; identify indicators that highlight problems

  • Make recommendations for visualisation/automation to adapt existing business strategies; data or dashboards migration between platforms upon new platform implementation; data and dashboards enhancement (including code optimisation)

  • Maintain/update reports weekly to ensure the latest insights can be presented to multiple users/stakeholder; yearly market share model refresh

  • Resolve and report issues/bugs from either data or reports if any

Competencies, Qualifications & Experience

  • A relevant degree in mathematics, actuarial studies or data science is desirable; minimum of two years of industry experience; experience of insurance desirable, but not essential

  • Expert user of Excel, SAS for data merging/joining/preparation and R, R Shiny, R Studio Connect for dashboard building, maintenance and debugging. Preferred knowledge and experience in using: a) MYSQL for data screening and extraction; b) Basic Linux for creating, copying, moving files/folders; and c) Git for version control

  • Proven ability to engage in a team to achieve individual, team and divisional goals; good influencing and collaboration skills across internal stakeholders; communication skills – ability to convey and explain information, coherently and confidently both verbally and in writing; customer service– committed to delivering a quality differentiated experience to all clients

  • Ability to analyse data and identify critical issues and develop solutions and drive data-based decisions; analytical thinking - knowledge of techniques and tools that promote practical analysis and the ability to determine the root cause of organisational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve the issues in the best interest of the business

  • Time management skills – prioritisation of work without supervision; adaptable and responsive to a continuously changing environment; creativity - knowledge of the approaches, tools, and techniques for promoting creative, original thinking and ability to apply it to a variety of business situations; ability to exhibit intellectual curiosity, personal drive, passion and resilience
