Consultant / Senior Consultant – Sri Lanka

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an individual who is seeking to advance their career in a consulting environment by supporting our Data & Analytics Practice, based in Sri Lanka. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a variety of projects, ranging from statutory reserving and stress testing projects to advisory projects such as M&A, reinsurance optimisation and strategy development.

The Data & Analytics Practice has been providing actuarial, financial, strategy, management and distribution consulting services to (re)insurance companies/ (re)takaful operators in Asia since its inception over 30 years ago. During this time, we have been valuing the loss reserves, performing pricing studies and various capital/ reinsurance optimisation analyses for companies throughout the region for their compliance with increasingly sophisticated local insurance regulations. As a result, NMG has developed an excellent knowledge of the competitive landscape in Asia, which in turn allows us to advise clients on the optimal strategies for operating within these jurisdictions.

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an individual who is seeking to advance their career in a consulting environment by supporting Sri Lanka. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a variety of projects, ranging from statutory reserving and stress testing projects to advisory projects such as M&A, reinsurance optimisation and strategy development. In the role, you will gain invaluable experience through delivering projects in both developing and developed markets, have exposure to business development, and the chance to collaborate with other parts of the NMG Group globally.

The position will suit a self-motivated individual who possesses strong technical and analytical skills in addition to excellent client management abilities. We would like to hear from qualified and part-qualified actuaries as well as candidates with relevant strategy and/or data science experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and executing a variety of projects ranging across liability valuation, financial modelling, pricing and strategy development. Developing strong relationships with clients, collaborating effectively with colleagues and delivering outcomes to a very high standard, commensurate with our value proposition and client expectations

  • Contributing to business development by building and maintaining a network of industry contacts and identifying opportunities for new business

  • Generating ideas for new competency areas for the practice and contributing to thought leadership for both internal and external publications

  • Managing, developing and coaching junior actuarial staff and supporting the growth of the practice by assisting ongoing talent acquisition efforts

  • Working with our global teams to support wider consultancy projects and encouraging global collaboration

Competencies, Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a consultancy or insurance environment. Local experience in life, health insurance and/or takaful is an advantage

  • A tertiary qualification in actuarial science or a mathematics-related degree, with good progress towards qualification with a recognised actuarial body

  • Proven analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and high-quality standards

  • Self-managing with the ability to work independently, remain flexible and prioritise competing demands and organise work-flow clearly

  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills including an ability to engage with clients and manage relationships

  • Strong people management skillset, able to set clear expectations and coach and develop accordingly

  • A high level of enthusiasm for the industry, a positive attitude, energetic approach, curiosity and willingness to learn; an interest in growing and developing business

  • Knowledge of statistical software such as Prophet (and/or Moses/Axis) SAS, SQL, R/ R-Shiny, Python being desirable
