NMG Corporate Giving Program – Charity Challenge

About Charity Challenge

Every year, we host the Charity Challenge, a group-wide approach to charitable giving which originated in 2010 to combine NMGers’ love of sport with an already strong social conscience felt by many across the group. The money raised by all NMG employees around the world provides the most basic needs of food and shelter, as well as supporting education and job training to break the cycle of poverty for vulnerable children and their families. The funds raised through NMG’s Charity Challenge go to four worthy causes:

These charities work to support over 250 at-risk children in the Johannesburg and Cape Town areas. Each runs a very impressive center to house, feed, clothe, educate and rehabilitate children who have been neglected, disabled, abused, orphaned, or abandoned.

Elundini Educare

Elundini Educare

Founded in 2008, Eldundini Educare provides specialised care to over 120 developmentally and physically disabled children from local settlements in Cape Town. Elundini provides a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment to children between the ages of 18 months to 18 years old. With NMG's past contribution, Elundini has been able to buy and expand the land they were on. Previously, they did not own any land, making fundraising and registration with organisations such as the Department of Social Development almost impossible.

Uviwe

Uviwe

Over the past 100 years, what began as a specialist organisation to protect the rights of abused children has now grown into a sustainable social agency. Uviwe focuses on helping vulnerable children and youth from Schauderville and Gelvandale, and aims to provide children during different development phases with love, food (nutrition), safety (protection) and stimulation (education support) to reach their full potential.

Tembisa

Tembisa Child and Family Welfare Society

Started by the South African Black Social Workers Association in 1986. Tembisa has been able to establish centers such as an administration block, two children's homes, two preschools, a workshop for projects, and a huge kitchen facility for the Kopanong center. This is only made possible through the corporate fundraising Tembisa has received through the years.

Thanda

Thanda

Established in 2008, Thanda aims to empower people to create a positive change. Their holistic approach to community development involves local resources and talent to develop sustainable solutions, with core programming centered around: early childhood development, after-school education, creative learning training, and organic farming. Through these programmes, Thanda aims to break the cycle of generational poverty that exists in rural areas of South Africa by empowering people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make positive contributions to their communities.
